English Culture Circle: Macbeth

Together with the Thea Community to the classic Open Air performance of The American Drama Group: Macbeth, a king driven by his ambitious wife and the prophecy of three witches, commits murder to gain the throne. Even today, greed for power and politics are still a bad combination.

What's done cannot be undone

Shakespeare's Macbeth is certainly the most performed play. The ADGE tours worldwide with this classical version since 2001: A language that is still overwhelming, accompanied by music played in a classical setting. Particularly atmospheric in the fountain courtyard of the residence!

Macbeth reveals how the treacherous power of ambition can result in political, pyschological and personal demise. The plot is a thriller enhanced with romance, the supernatural, mental torment that slides into horror. A prophecy sparks a latent ambition in Macbeth that becomes obsessive, beguiled into violence by his wife and ends with murder. A royal couple consumed by guilt and paranoia that leads to their insanity and finally their deaths.

This production enhances the poetic intensity of Shakespeare and is a reminder that even today power without morals is corrupted by ruthless ambition, evil and narcissistic tyranny.
